Disclaimer:
Keep it in mind that flashing a custom ROM is considered a risky procedure. Therefore, do not plunge into the business unless you are sure what is it all about. If you are not careful while flashing a custom ROM on to your Galaxy Tab 2, you might even brick it. Proceed on your responsibility.
Root Your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 First:
A custom ROM requires permission to overwrite the system files of your device and a custom Recovery to install it. That is why, you have to root your Tab 2 and install the Clockworkmod Recovery on it before it becomes eligible to do this. If you have already gone through the rooting stuff, you can skip it.
Installing CM 10.1 on Galaxy Tab2:
- Download the latest CM 10.1 ROM for you device from the link above and copy the zip file to your Tab 2′s SD Card (internal or external).
- Download the Google Apps zip package from here and copy it to the internal or external SD Card.
- Charge the Galaxy Tab 2 at least 80% battery level.
- Open Settings> Developer Options and turn on USB Debugging.
- Backup all your contacts, messages, apps etc.
- Turn off your Galaxy Tab 2 and boot it into the ClockworkMod Recovery: press and hold the Volume Down and Power keys simultaneously. Release the Power button when Samsung image is shown and Release the Volume Down key. Use the Volume Down to navigate between the icons and highlight the left icon (box). Press the Volume Up to select it and you will enter the Recovery Mode where you see a black screen with blue text.
- In the Recovery mode, use the Volume keys to scroll and highlight the options and the Power key to select an item.
- The first thing you should do before flashing a custom ROM on your device is to create a backup of your current ROM so that you might restore it later in case anything goes wrong, or you do not like the new ROM. Go to “backup and restore> backup” and and backup the ROM.
- Now in the main menu of recovery, go to “wipe data/factory reset” and wipe data.
- Then scroll to “install zip from sd card> choose zip from sd card” and select the ROM file.
- When the ROM is installed, select “install zip from sd card> choose zip from sd card” again and install the Gapps file.
- Finally, go back to the main menu and select “reboot system now”.
When you Tab 2 boots up, it will be running on the latest CM 10.1 Android 4.2.1 ROM. Please, Don’t restore system data using Titanium Backup! Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible! Since the CyanogenMod supports themes, you can download free and paid theme from the Play Store.
